LIMERICK swimming enthusiasts made a splash this August as members of Limerick City Social Swims dived in from the Curraghgour Boat Club for a day of relaxed swimming.
This Saturday, August 26 will be the final date of Limerick Social Swims. Participants will set off at 9.30 am making their way up beside King John’s Castle before reaching Thomond Bridge.
Organisers of the swim said the events were a “magnificent success” seeing more than 70 people take on the scenic swim in their Speedos, swimming togs and wetsuits. After making their way to Thomond Bridge, swimmers splash about before turning back to the boat club, where a feast awaits the hungry athletes.
Speaking of the event’s success, Elisa O’Donovan of Limerick Social Swims said, “Participants traveled from all over the country to take part in an incredibly scenic and social swim.”
“For those who don’t fancy a dip, encouragement, and support from the shore is welcome.”
The social swim is open to swimmers of all abilities and ages, with the event being the first time many swimmers will paddle into the River Shannon. Participants are asked to meet at the Curraghgour Boat Club, Merchants Quay, Limerick, equipped with a brightly coloured swimming cap, a swimsuit, goggles, towel and a sense of fun, curiosity and a willingness to try new experiences.
