SINGER/ SONGWRITER and now film maker, Tom Ryan will screen his debut film for the first time this Saturday at Shannon Rowing Club.
‘A Man With A Plan’ started out as an original song. It has now been incorporated into a short eight minute film by the writer, as he explained to Limerick Post.
“I originally wrote a song a few years back called ‘A Man With A Plan’. I had just watched ‘Casablanca’ for the umpteenth time when the song came to me. I always wanted to do a video to go with the track.”
The Limerick musician, who is also studying acting. came in contact with Matchbox Productions who agreed to film his project. By now the music video idea had expanded to telling a story with dialogue.
The song is about a guy who has powers to heal and wants to try to do good with it – but also wants to get on with his life.
The film tells the story of this lead character played by Tom promising to reveal his dark secret to his girlfriend to save his relationship.
“I came up with a script. It was to be a music video originally but then it turned into a short film. We initially thought we would record this over two weeks but it took three months.”
“I’m very happy with the way it turned out – despite all the hurdles to jump.”
At Limerick Rowing Club, Tom will be performing his songs with Michael Laffan and Birgit Burhenne – collectively known as My Favourite House – followed by the screening and then a Q and A because everyone involved in the film will be there. Followed by more live music and a DJ.
Tom hopes to bring together a large group of creatives from the film and music world to celebrate the launch and the event is free to the public.
