Mungret St Pauls beat Doon 3-14 to 1-13 in a minor hurling game that was back and forth from the start with both teams making key mistakes throughout.
Both sides started the game with a goal, with Mungret St Pauls claiming the first goal, after sending the first ball wide of the post. Mungret St Pauls followed the goal with a point before Doon tied the game up with some hard work on the pitch.
Mungret St Pauls then had three unanswered points before Doon received a scoring free. Doon kept the pressure on and a big tussle for the sliotar at the Mungret goal line eventually saw the ball cleared out field only to be sent back over the bar by Doon.
Mungret St Pauls then sent a few shots wide but kept pushing for a second goal which was beautifully saved by the Doon goalie. There were four frees to end the half, three for Mungret St Pauls and one for Doon to bring the score at half-time to Mungret St Pauls 1-9 Doon 0-8.
Doon started the second half off with a bang by slamming the ball into the back of the net. The quick goal seemed to wake the Mungret St Pauls team up as their defence stopped Doon each time they sent the ball in.
Doon eventually broke through and scored a goal only for the referee to declare a square ball, the goal would’ve surely left Mungret on the back foot but they kept their lead by scoring two points either side of their second goal before handing Doon 3 frees in a row all pointed.
The game ended with frees dictating the final score of Mungret St Pauls 3-14 Doon 1-13. Mungret St Pauls have 2 games left against Adare and Garryspillane.
