FARMERS in County Limerick and around the country have been advised to increase and make stronger their security measures to protect their valuable equipment and livelihoods, according to gardai.
The warning comes after €200,000 worth of previously stolen equipment was on display at a Garda run event in a bid to reunite the items with owners.
Hundreds of farmers and construction workers from around the Mid West descended on Nenagh to check the items recovered by gardai.
At the event, farmers were urged to ensure that all of their property is firmly marked with their Eircode, with ultra-violet pen on small items and etched on larger property.
Furthermore, it was also advised that high value items should be stored in a secure alarmed shed or building which is located as close to a dwelling house as possible.
Other measures advised to be taken included the installation of strong security lighting and CCTV cameras where possible.
These steps would act as a deterrent but also photographing and logging items of value by owners was also advised.
Separately, those engaged in buying secondhand products at market or from private sellers were also advised to be conscious of the authenticity of the goods, especially if the pricing was considerably lower than an average.
