#BREAKING Grenande found submerged at Thomond Bridge

 

Thomond Bridge in Limerick this Wednesday

A GRENADE, which will most likely turnout to be a relic of some antiquity, was discovered by maintenance staff who were carrying out repair works to Thomond Bridge in Limerick this Wednesday afternoon.

The discovery was made shortly after 1pm by specialist contractors who had been working on the stone facade of Thomond Bridge.

Chief Superintendent Dave Sheahan along with Superintendent Derek Smart confirmed that a device “understood to be a well rusted grenade of some antiquity” was found by the workers at the bridge.

It is understood that the device was discovered in the tidal waters near the bridge’s archways.

The grenade was found by repair contractors working at the bridge

Units from the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team based in Cork are to attend at the scene and are to exam the device with a view to establishing if it is viable or a danger to the public.

Thomond Bridge remains closed as gardai have cordoned off the bridge pending the device and area being declared safe.

Gardai in Henry Street are investigating.
