IN ONE of his last public announcements in Limerick, the outgoing Minister for Finance and Fine Gael TD, Michael Noonan has said that developing an economic strategy sector by sector has allowed Ireland to recover to almost near full employment.
Speaking in Limerick at the announcement of a major new €6m expansion of the Castletroy Park Hotel, Minister Noonan said that when Fine Gael took the helm at the last Government “it was in crisis. For a while were were wondering whether we could manage a recovery or not.
“But as we worked through it we realised that we were going to carry it through to a successful finish.”
The most significant thing that happened and it is never referred to is that in parallel we designed an economic strategy to restore the different sectors of the Irish economy.
Citing a number of the incentives brought about, Minister Noonan said that the country is in a better place now “and we are very nearly at full employment.
“In terms of the future of Limerick we must continue what we are doing because what we are doing is successful.
