County Limerick hatchet attack under investigation

GARDAI in Limerick are investigating an incident where a man received serious wounds from a hatchet attack in the city last Sunday evening.

The incident occurred in the village of Kilteely near Dromkeen in County Limerick at around 6pm on Sunday evening last.

Gardai confirmed that the male victim, understood to be aged in his 50s, sustained serious head injuries and was taken to University Hospital Limerick following the assault.

Investigations are ongoing after initial reports said that the incident was sparked by an earlier altercation or dispute at a pub.

A number of people left the scene of the attack in a car which was later found crashed in Nicker village.

The man, who remains in hospital, is said to have non life threatening injuries” but still serious in their nature.

Gardai in Bruff are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information and they can be contacted on 061 382 940.
