THAT operatic spectacular, ‘A Viennese Strauss Gala’ returns to University Concert Hall by popular demand on February 8 with a sparkling anniversary production.
This is the 15th year of this impressive tribute to the waltzes, salons, balls and magic of Austria in its full imperial glory.
The company World on Stage, also behind ‘Mozart by Candlelight’ which visited the Limerick venue in autumn, recreates the romance of the Viennese festive season. Welcome to this bygone glamorous era.
This is a luxuriously social world driven by Strauss waltzes, glittering ballrooms and jaunty polkas.
According to Emma Foote, marketing manager with UCH, “‘A Viennese Strauss Gala’ brings us highlights from some of the great operettas and music of the Strauss family, Kalman and Lehar. These include Die Fledermaus, The Merry Widow, Gypsy Baron, Blue Danube Waltz and a rousing finale of the Radetsky March.
“The European Orchestral Ensemble will accompany four soloists from major opera companies, among them Opera North, English National Opera and D’Oyly Carte”.
Production values are rich so anticipate “beautiful costumes, excellent voices and some fine acting too”.
Book on www.uch.ie for 8pm show.
