Limerick Circuit Court

A 30-year-old man is to be sentenced in March for sending indecent images to a teenager in Limerick.

At Limerick Circuit Court on Tuesday the man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to a number of charges including sending lewd pictures to the boy and possessing material relating to child pornography during the early part of 2016.

The court was told that the man, who is not from Limerick, befriended a boy through social media and sent him nude images and videos ahead of plans to meet at a hotel.

He was intercepted on his way to the hotel where he was to meet the boy and dozens of images of the boy were found on his phone. Child porn material was also found on other devices.

He had been due to face trial at the Circuit Criminal Court, but this Tuesday he opted to plead guilty to the offences and was remanded to appear before the court in March when he will face a maximum prison sentence of up to 14 years.
