Maria Hennigar had been missing since November

THE body found in Galway Bay last week has been confirmed as that of missing Limerick woman Maria Hennigar.

The 35-year-old native of Fr Russell Road, had moved to Doolin in recent months but went missing in early November.

Extensive searches, involving hundreds of volunteers, had been carried out along the West Coast of Clare for a number of weeks before attention turned to North Clare and the waters of Galway Bay.

On November 29, a discovery was made at the shoreline in Kilcolgan, Co Galway and DNA profiling assisted in the identification of Ms Hennigar.

Family and friends have thanked all those involved in the searches.
