#WATCH Man remains in custody over attack on Limerick woman

CRIME scene analysts are continuing their investigations at a townhouse property in Limerick where a woman was violently attacked during the early hours of last Sunday morning while 27-year-old suspect remains in Garda custody.

The alarm was raised to a disturbance at a house in Hassetts Villas in the Thomondgate area of the city at around 12:40am on Sunday morning last.

Gardai arrived at the scene to find a38-year-old woman seriously injured with a puncture type stab wound to her back as well as other injuries.

She was immediately hospitalised where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

A 27-year-old man, who was not resident at the property, was arrested at the scene and remains in garda custody at Henry Street garda Station in Limerick.

This Monday morning, while questioning of the suspect continues under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, the scene remains closed off as forensic and crime scene analysts investigate the location an the property where the woman is understood to have suffered the injuries.

Shards of glass from a broken upstairs window remain on the roadway below as investigators wearing all-in-one white forensic suits come and go from the property.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Mayorstone Garda station at 061 456980 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Given her condition, detectives have yet to speak with the 38-year-old victim but they are asking for the assistance of the public to contact them or for anyone who may have been in and or around the property to come forward.
