UL HOSPITALS Group has confirmed that all day procedures will be suspended for two weeks over the Christmas period at the four acute hospitals in the region.

From December 23 to January 9, operating theatres in University Hospital Limerick (UHL), Ennis, Nenagh and Croom hospitals will be closed for elective surgery.

The hospital group said that this is “traditionally a time of year when a high rate of patients request to postpone their planned surgery”. As a result, the day surgical wards in those hospitals will also close.

These closures have been planned months in advance and no patients were scheduled to have their surgery during this time. UHL will continue to operate an emergency theatre to manage any emergency or unplanned surgery.
