The bogus caller targeted the elderly lady late at night

A FAKE garda conned his way into the home of elderly Limerick lady last Sunday night and made off with a sum of cash in one of the latest scams to hit the city.

Gardai in Roxboro are treating the incident as very serious.

Sometime around 10pm last Sunday, a man called to a house on Bengal Terrace and told the the elderly woman, who was alone, that he was a member of An Garda Siochana and was investigating a crime.

It is understood that he conned his way in to the house and subsequently made off with a sum of cash.

The elderly pensioner was left shaken and confused over the whole episode.

Detectives at Roxboro are now warning members of the public over these “bogus callers” and are asking that homeowners exercise caution.

Homeowners have been reminded that Garda will identify themselves with proper An garda Siocahna identification.

Anyone who may have information on this or similar incidents are asked to contact Roxboro Road Station on 061 214340 or on the garda confidential number on 1800 666 111.
