THE BODY of a young female has been discovered in the basement of an apartment on Catherine Street in Limerick this Tuesday morning.
The grim discovery was made shortly before noon, when a young female, understood to be aged in her 20s was found lying in an alcove outside a downstairs apartment at the city centre address.
Gardai from Henry Street were alerted to the discovery made by a man who is a member of the homeless community this Tuesday morning.
The area has been sealed off for a technical examination and the woman’s body remains at the scene.
A garda spokesperson said that the remains are to be removed from the scene and brought to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination will be carried out.
It is understood that the young girl, who was also a member of the homeless community, had been squatting in the alcoved area outside the basement apartment.
Gardai at Henry Street are investigating but it is understood that they are not initially treating the death as suspicious.
On Monday night also, temperatures dipped to OdegC in parts of Munster with a ‘real feel’ chill factor dropping temperatures by a further two degrees which gardai believe may have contributed.
