ALL ROADS lead to the Gaelic Grounds this Sunday afternoon as the Limerick champions Patrickswell take on their Cork counterparts, Glen Rovers, in the Munster Senior Club Hurling championship semi final.
Glen Rovers, back to back Cork County champions, enter the semi finals after an impressive 0-19 to 2-11 win over Erin’s Own at Pairc Uí Rinn.
The Cork city side, winners of the Cork championship an impressive 27 times, lost out to Ballygunner of Waterford at the same round last season.
Patrickswell, managed by Gary Kirby, enter the game as 4/7 favourites with the bookies following their impressive 1-26 to 1-7, demolition of Ballybrown in the County final.
Indeed, the ’Well are looking to make it three wins in a row for Limerick sides in the Munster championship, following in the footsteps of Na Piarsaigh and Kilmallock in the last two seasons.
With 10 different scorers on the board during the county final, the men from the ’Well know that another performance of firepower and pace will go along way to getting into their first Munster club final since 2003, when they eventually lost out to Newtownshandrum by nine points.
Patrickswell have also been boosted this week by the news that Seanie O’Brien, Diarmaid Byrnes, Kevin O’Brien and Cian Lynch have been picked on the Limerick hurling panel for next season. The quartet will be joined on the field this weekend by Patrickswell stalwarts Brian Murray, Brian Foley and the ever impressive Aaron Gillane who top scored with 0-7 in the county final win. The game on Sunday throws in at 3.30pm with commentary available on Limerick’s Live95fm.
