THE hunt is on for precious metals in Limerick with a Dublin company seeking a prospecting licence to scour townlands across the county for gold, silver, base metals and barytes
The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment is in the process of granting a prospecting licence to Group Eleven Resources Ltd, to allow the company search the land for the valuable minerals.
If the licence is granted, Group Eleven Resources will be allowed to search 1050sq km in the Pallasgreen region of Co Limerick.
Although the licence will grant the company permission to look for a wide range of precious metals, it is understood that the initial focus will be on locating zinc deposits.
The company’s plans involve screening for potential mineralisation in the ground with the entire process expected to last up to years.
The terms of the prospecting licence allows the holder to explore for mineral deposits but not to mine for any deposits found.
