THE access to a wealth of talented graduates and an experienced workforce in Limerick has become a key tool for the IDA in selling and attracting the region to FDI companies.
For the second week in a row and the third major announcement of jobs for the city and county, a US company has cited the talent pool and the access that Limerick has to wider markets as being key decision making factors for firms to move in and set up in the city and county.
Following significant announcements by Ortec Inc and Fazzi Helathcare Services in recent weeks, Texas based WP Engine has decided to build its technical support and innovation centre on the city’s foundations as it plans to roll out 100 high-end over the next three years.
The move has been seen as further endorsement of Limerick’s emerging “tech hub” title.
@wpengine CEO Heather Brunner said that the attractiveness in coming to Limerick was spearheaded by the work of the IDA during the consultation process.

Welcoming the announcement, Deputy Mayor of the City and County Cllr Noel Gleeson said: “It’s the second week in a row that Limerick has been the centre of a significant jobs announcement. WP Engine is the leader in delivering managed services for premium websites built on WordPress. Approximately five per cent of the online world visits a website powered by WP Engine every day. The opening of the centre, will further support the surging demand for managed WordPress across EMEA.”
The new Technical Support and Innovation Centre will serve more than 50,000 brands in 69 EMEA countries.
Director of Economic Development and Interim Chief Operating Officer with Limerick Twenty Thirty, Dr Pat Daly said: “WP Engine’s announcement shows that with the right mix of available office space, motivated and highly skilled and available talent, Limerick is the place for companies to locate. The plans being developed and implemented means that the city centre is the location for companies wishing to invest.”
