Bone found at River Shannon
Gardai are investigating the discovery of the bone on the banks of the Shannon

GARDAI in Limerick and Clare have launched a major investigation after a suspected human shin bone was found on the banks of the River Shannon this Thursday

The discovery was made at lunchtime on Thursday at Doonass in Clonlara and Gardai from the Limerick Division at Ardnacrusha were called to the scene.

Technical examinations were carried out at the site which sealed off. The area was also extensively photographed by the Garda technical division.

The suspected shin bone was removed and brought to the University Hospital Limerick for further examination and for tests to be carried out.

It is believed that the unusual discovery was found on an area of dry land adjacent to the river Shannon.

Gardai have confirmed that their investigations are underway and they will look to unsolved missing persons cases for any possible links.
