GARDAI at Mayorstone Station in Limerick are investigating an aggravated burglary at Castlecourt Apartments on Clancy Strand last Sunday evening where the homeowner suffered a number of stab wounds.

The owners of the property, who had returned home after 8pm, disturbed a burglar as they went inside.

A 27-year-old man was attacked by the burglar and sustained a number of stab wounds as he attempted to leave the scene.

“Fortunately the stab wounds were not of a serious nature”, according to Sergeant Justin Mccarthy of the Henry Street Crime Prevention Office, “but nonetheless, the victim could have been seriously injured, or worse”.

Gardai say that they are now searching for a male culprit who is described as having shaggy blonde hair, 5’10”, blue jeans and light coloured shirt.

Meantime, detectives at Mayorstone Station are investigating a distraction burglary at a house in Corrib Drive, Caherdavin at 2pm last Monday afternoon.

The culprit knocked on the door and conned his way into the house. Having distracted the occupant he then managed to steal a sum of cash from a handbag.

This follows a similar incident one week earlier at the home of an 86-year-old woman residing in College Park, Corbally.

Here again, the culprit knocked on the door and conned his way into the house. He also succeeded in distracting his victim before stealing a number of items from the house.

Mayorstone Gardai are also investigating an attempted theft from a collection box at Christ The King Church in Caherdavin last Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayorstone Gardai at 061 456980 or on the confidential telephone line 1800 666 111.
