A warm Limerick welcome for LIT’s international students

lit-logoSTUDENTS from Canada to Malaysia, Brazil, Pakistan, China and Nigeria were among those beginning their studies at Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT) this week — a sign of its continued rise as a force in international education.

Mayor Kieran O’Hanlon was on hand to welcome the latest cohort of international LIT students at a special event in City Hall last week.

The Mayor expressed confidence that the students would experience a warm welcome and praised LIT and its International Office for the quality of the programmes, the campus and the services provided by the Institute.

“LIT is attracting interest from all continents now. Our teaching, our programmes, our research, our industry engagement – these are all now held in high esteem globally as well as here in Ireland,” said LIT International Manager, Cliona Campbell.

“In actively promoting the Institute on the world stage, LIT is promoting the region too. International scholars at LIT enrich their lives and their careers through what the Institute has to offer and they contribute much to the culture, diversity and local economy of the Limerick region.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome more than 100 International Students to LIT for International Orientation week. LIT is also creating more opportunities for its local student population to take part of their education abroad and the Institute is experiencing increasing demand from prospective students at home, through CAO and direct entry, as well as from abroad,” she added.

According to LIT Head of Faculty, Business and Humanities, Donnacha McNamara, the context for industry, business and careers is increasingly global.

“The readiness of graduates for that environment can only be enhanced by having an international dimension to their higher education. Multinational corporations actively engage with LIT in shaping the taught content and practical elements of our programmes, through our philosophy of active learning. LIT is therefore especially well-placed to equip students from all parts of the world with a higher education that prepares them for today’s highly globalised workplace,” he said.
