Local businesses urged to support bereavement service

THE number of Limerick people seeking professional support after the loss of a child or young person has doubled in the past year.

FirstLight, the organisation which provides aid and assistance during these traumatic events, has received 210 calls to its hotline this year, a 100 per cent increase on last year’s figure.

Due to this increase, FirstLight need to raise โ‚ฌ25,000 to ensure parents, families and professionals in Limerick who lose a child or young person suddenly and unexpectedly, receive appropriate professional support.

FirstLight is calling out to 100 Limerick businesses to donate a minimum of โ‚ฌ250 to the FirstLightLimerick100 Campaign to reach a target of โ‚ฌ25,000.

International rugby player, Keith Earls has urged Limerick businesses to come together and support the FirstLight100 campaign.

“As a parent, I want to highlight an important issue and give FirstLight the advantage by calling on all Limerick businesses to come together and support the FirstLight100 campaign.”

FirstLight chairman Kevin Oโ€™Meara, who lost his son Timmy, stressed the importance of the campaign.

“By encouraging businesses to sign up and support the campaign, we can enable FirstLight to ensure that these services are available to all parents, families and professionals who want the help of FirstLight no matter where they live in the city and county.

“A service that literally provides a light in the darkest moment imaginable,” he said.
