IRELAND’S favourite rockabilly chanteuse, Imelda May returns to Limerick this weekend.
This year Imelda recorded her fifth album in LA with producer T-Bone Burnett (Elvis Costello, BB King, Alison Krauss). No title or release date has been announced yet.
U2’s Bono has been a mentor for Imelda during the recording.
Imelda recently told the Irish Sun that the album is about her life and what she has been going through since her split from husband and guitarist Darrel Higham after 13 years of marriage.
“The songs are more honest than anything before. I’ve gone through friendship, divorce, falling in love again, falling out of love again. I’ve had a rollercoaster year.”
The U2 singer told Imelda that if she got it right, the new album could be a “game changer” for her which has inspired the song ‘Game Changer’ on the new record.
Imelda is always a popular entertainer here in the city, expect to hear the hits ‘Johnny Got a Boom Boom’, ‘Mayhem’ and ‘Big Bad Handsome Man’ and maybe a new song mixed with some choice cover versions. Imelda May and band play Live at King John’s Castle this Saturday August 13. Tickets at dolans.ie

Imelda covered U2’s ‘All I want is You’ at a recent concert in July at Sage Gateshead in the UK and she is sounding great and the audience responded in full voice.
