TRIBUTES have been paid to “proud Limerick man” Tony O’Mara who passed away over the weekend.
Escape artist and Limerick magician Steve Spade took to his social media Facebook page on Saturday to write; “With a heavy heart I write this, my Uncle Tony O’Mara passed away today.
“You will be missed so much by all your family and friends.
“Tony and my Dad were very close and worked together for years in the motor trade as Toyota dealers, he was an amazing business man, was great older brother to my Dad, uncle to me and a proud Limerick man.”
In a poignant closing note, Steve posted; “The cars are all in Tony and locked up for the weekend.
“God bless you may you now rest in peace”.
For 35 years, Mr O’Mara, who passed away on Saturday night, ran O’Mara Motors on the Ennis Road for almost 35 years.
As one of the biggest car dealerships in the region for many years, O’Mara Motors moved to a state-of-the-art newly built premises on the Tipperary Road.
Herald as a great business man Mayor Michael Hourigan recalled him being a great employer and a business man of the like that the city could do with more of.
O’Mara Motors, which is back operating at the Ennis Road site will be closed until Thursday as a mark of respect.
Mr O’Mara will be reposing at Milford Care Centre from 4:30pm on Tuesday and will laid to rest following requiem mass at St John’s Cathedral.
Mr O’Mara is survived by his wife Jennifer, sons Paul and Graham, daughters Linda, Carol, Siobhan, Suzanne, and Melissa, brothers, sisters, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
