LAST Sunday evening the University Concert Hall was alive with the sights and sounds of traditional music and dance at a very special event.
The audience had travelled far and wide to the popular venue as the renowned Blas International Summer School of Irish Music and Dance celebrated its 20th Anniversary.
As you can imagine there was an excellent programme planned in honour of the special milestone with the gala concert boasting an impressive line up of traditional music greats happy to share their talents.
Artists such as Paul Brady, Altan, Donal Lunny, Andy Irvine, Martin Hayes, Colin Dunne and Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin joined current and former tutors for the concert which was presented by The Blas International Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance and The Irish World Academy.
The twentieth annual Blas Summer school was launched recently by Professor Mel Mercier and the concert was one of the highlights of this year’s programme.
Students from all over the world have been attending the prestigious Summer school, learning traditional Irish music, song and dance with a series of master classes, lectures, field trips and concerts and céilís which run right up until July 1.
