Fianna Fail councillor, Kieran O’Hanlon has been elected the new Mayor of Limerick City and County.
He won the vote in the council chamber after being nominated along with Lisa Marie Sheehy (SF) and Cian Prendiville (AAA)
Outgoing Mayor, Liam Galvin thanked all who had supported him. “It has been an hour to serve in this position and I have fantastic memories which I will talk with me for the rest of my life.
Accepting his chain of office, Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon (FF) said the events of the last week have “dramatically changed the political mood” but said the people of Limerick and of Ireland needs a “period of calm” to analyse what it means. But he added that we must “take whatever steps we can to make sure Limerick is best positioned to make the most of this new European context and our relationship with the UK”.
He said that “one thing we cannot do is take our foot off the policing Pedal. Gardai Limerick have done remarkable work in smashing the grip of gangland activity”
