LIMERICK’S senior camogie stars will start their 2016 championship campaign this coming Saturday June 18 against Wexford at Innovate Park. The clash, to be refereed by Ray Kelly, will throw in at 5.15pm.
John Tuohy’s side have been drawn with Wexford, Waterford, Clare, Offaly and Cork in Group 1. With the winner qualifying for the semi-final and the second and third place teams progressing to quarter-finals, a top three finish is the objective for the coming season.
Based on results and form coming out of the league is a strong possibility for this team as captain Lorraine McCarthy explains.
“In the league, we had quite a good campaign really. We got a few wins under our belts. Every win is a good stepping stone to the championship, it gives you confidence.”
Having been in 2014, Mc Carthy also feels that this season is the campaign which will be built on that experience.
“Last year we were probably getting to grips a little bit with the senior game, that is what helped us in the league this year.
“The challenge for us in 2016 is to reach a quarter final, semi final. We have pushed team pretty close and I think that some of the bigger teams will now look at us as a threat.”
