GAA – Limerick make championship entry against Tipperary

tipp_vs_limerick_2016_instagramTHE LIMERICK hurlers will play Tipperary in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final on Sunday, June 19, at 4pm in Semple Stadium Thurles.
These fiercest of rivals have met 67 times in the championship – 65 in Munster, one in the All-Ireland semi-final (2009) and one in the All-Ireland qualifiers (2004) with the results standing as: Tipperary 34 wins; Limerick 23 wins; Draws 10.
Sunday is TJ Ryan side’s first outing in this year’s championship while Tipperary beat Cork by 0-22 to 0-13 in the quarter-final.
The game, which is live on RTE2 and Limerick’s Live95fm, will no doubt be a close affair once more.
This will be the 15th championship clash between the counties in the new Millennium with Tipperary having won eight times and Limerick three times, while there were three draws.
In team news, Limerick are expected to be able to pick from a full deck, as they look to atone for last season’s defeat to the Premier county.
TJ Ryan and his selectors have some tough decisions to make before Sunday, with competition for places  in almost every line of the field.
With Paul Browne and James Ryan expected to start in midfield, fans of Limerick hurling will wait anxiously to see who will wear both the number 6 and number 11 jerseys.
With the full back position also uncertain, Limerick will be hoping that a settled spine of the team will take the field for what is a massive game for the Shannonsiders.
The winners will play Waterford in the Munster final on July 10; the losers enter the All-Ireland qualifiers on July 2.
