A NATION hold its breath (and bank accounts) as Ireland enter the European Championships. The larger scaled tournament will give Ireland a glimmer of hope of making the knock-out stages, yet one can only feel that the fans actions off the field will once again outshine the players actions on it.
Yes, Sweden, Italy and Belgium are better than Ireland and yes, we have minute playing populations compared to our opponents, but I just hope that Ireland go down fighting at this tournament.
Would it not be more beneficial, to the building of the game in this country, were Ireland to lose three games 4-3 or 3-2 as opposed to limping out of the tournament with three 1-0 losses following 90 minutes of stunted counter attacks? Whatever happens in the coming weeks, just remember, we are all experts. Ha.
