LEGENDARY Leeds indie band The Wedding Present will release their ninth album ‘Going Going’ on Scopitones on September 2. It will consist of a collection of 20 ‘linked’ tracks, each with a accompanying film. For their upcoming tour the album will be played live in its entirety with the films projected onto a large screen behind the stage.
Band leader David Gedge, the only permanent member in the ever shifting line-up, will be joined by Charles Layton on drums, and more recent members (2013) Katharine Wallinger on bass and Samuel Beer-Pearce on guitar.
The band’s first album ‘George Best’ (1987) was a critical success and still an indie classic. The follow up – via some Peel Sessions recording Ukrainian folk songs – was ‘Bizarrio’ released on RCA (1989) with a substantial recording budget. A phenomenal recording of angst, cacophony and bloodymindedness ‘Bizarro’ spawned hits ‘Kennedy’ and ‘Brassneck’.
The Wedding Present play Dolan’s Warehouse on Monday November 28.
