SENTENCING of two Limerick brothers who were caught mixing almost €50,000 worth of heroin in the kitchen of a house in St Mary’s Park last December has been adjourned.

Kieran Collopy (40) of St Ita’s Street, St Mary’s Park and Brian Collopy (43) of Kilonan, Ballysimon, signed pleas of guilty and were sent forward for sentencing at Limerick Circuit Court last week, but the hearing was adjourned after “certain materials” were disclosed to the defence.

Defence counsels Michael Collins BL and Brian McInerney BL, jointly applied to have the cases adjourned after prosecution counsel John O’Sullivan handed over a “dossier” of details running to over 50 pages.

Mr McInerny said that there were a number of matters that needed “flushing out” before the case could proceed to sentence.

Judge Tom O’Donnell adjourned the matter until July when evidence will be heard.

With the value of the drugs associated with the charges exceeding €13,000, the brothers face the prospect of a mandatory sentence of ten years in jail.
