OVER the last few years Declan O’Rourke has handpicked some of his most popular material and re-imagined the arrangements for a full concert orchestra. He has performed this show to five sold out concert hall sized venues accompanied by the RTE Concert Orchestra.
Declan has a wealth of material to choose from. Four albums worth of stories about love found, love lost, mistakes made and stories that just came to him in dreams. His most recent album ‘Gold Bars in the Sun’ was released one track at a time throughout 2015.
Always writing Declan has stated that he has probably seven more albums worth of material as yet unreleased.
Declan’s recordings with the RTE Concert Orchestra will be released in October 2016 called ‘In Full Colour’, featuring Love is the Way, Sarah (Last Night in a Dream), Big Bad Beautiful World and of course his biggest hit ‘Galileo’ one of Paul Weller’s favourite songs. Weller called it “possibly the greatest song written in the last 30 years.”
Reaction to the concerts has been overwhelmingly positive with the orchestra building up this natural storyteller’s songs into a widescreen spectacle.
Special guests for the night are The Dubliners’ John Sheahan and soprano Sarah Dolan.
Declan O’Rourke and the RTE Orchestra perform at University Concert Hall this Friday May 20.
