A #LIMERICK woman who entered the water near the Curragower Falls on Clancy Strand is recovering in hospital this Thursday morning after she was rescued by emergency responders.

Shortly after 1am in the early hours of Thursday, the alarm was raised that the woman, aged in 30s, had entered the River Shannon from the boardwalk on Clancy Strand.

Limerick City Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the scene, as were members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, and the woman was recovered from the water in low tide.

She was treated at the scene by Emergency Paramedics from the National Ambulance Service and later brought to the University Hospital Limerick for further treatment of the leg injuries she sustained.

Earlier on Wednesday night, the Limerick County Fire and Rescue Service attended a number of large gorse fires that broke out in Knockfierna, Ballingarry and at Cratloe east, Athea after 10pm.

Both fires, it was reported, were ablaze for a number of hours and crews remained on scene until after 2am.

Separately, the City Fire and Rescue Service attended a fire at a derelict building in Johnsgate Villas which broke out shortly after 10.30pm.

No injuries were reported at any of the fires.
