HEAD along to Dolan’s Upstairs for the earlier start of 7.45pm this Wednesday 20 for the end of term Limerick Jazz Improvisation party.

Look forward to a suite of rocking ensembles, each headed up by one or several of Limerick Jazz Soc’s committee or supporters: Bryan Meehan, Steve Hanks, Joe O’Callaghan, Ed Hansom, with last Christmas’s being super special. That night pulled Andreas Varady from his world tour with George Benson, accompanied by his dad Bandi and kid brother Adrian hammering life out of his drum kit.

(The family having moved to Limerick from Slovakia in 2007, Andreas is now managed by Quincy Jones and cut an album in his own name two years ago. David Lyttle produced the first, ‘Questions’, in 2010).

Singers and vocalists will join in the hub at Dolan’s, while Mick and Valerie Dolan lay on a tasty finger food spread. Ridiculous riches available to us for €5 for these 4-5 hours amazing music.

The official line is, “Jazz improvisation is spontaneous ‘in the moment’ musical composition. It plays a central role in jazz; musicians learn to improvise melodic passages over chord progressions using scale and chord tones”.
