A SAFE at the #Limerick motor tax office was targeted by thieves who broke in to the Dooradoyle premises during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to Gardai, access was gained through a window at the rear of the building. A safe was targeted but the thieves left empty handed as cash is not normally stored on the premises.
CCTV footage has been obtained along with finger and foot prints.
Gardaí are also investigating a number of other similar burglaries that took place at lock-up business premises where thieves targeted cash floats and petty cash in recent days.
A lock-up premises on St Nessan’s Road, Dooradoyle was targeted during the early hours of last Saturday night and Sunday morning.
Gardaí at Henry Street are investigating a similar burglary at a lock-up business premises on the Dublin Road during the early hours of Monday morning. They say that “while the sums of cash stolen are small, nonetheless there is an even greater cost to the owners in terms of damage caused to doors and glazing”.
Investigations are also continuing into reports of mobile phones being stolen while the victims were making calls at the time.
The first theft happened at a bus stop on the Old Cratloe Road at 3.50pm last Friday as a 20-year-old man had his phone snatched by a teenager with short black hair and of average height. He escaped by climbing over a wall to a nearby housing estate.
A similar theft was reported at 3.15am on Saturday at Mungret Street when a 33-year-old man had his phone snatched from his hand while walking along the street making a call.
