A VERY special procession of an icon blessed by Pope Francis in Rome is coming to Limerick next Monday.

Fr Seamus Enright of the Redemptorist order in Limerick met with the Pope in Rome last Wednesday when the 79-year old pontiff blessed a replica of the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help which is coming to Limerick as part of its tour of 26 cathedrals across the country.

The icon is arriving in the Treaty City as par of a six-week festival in honour of Our Lady.

The Redemptorists are this year celebrating 150 years of devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and in Limerick, have erected a new shrine in the grounds of Mount St Alphonsus.

The icon has already arrived in the city and was unveiled during Mass on Easter Sunday and has visited a number of local churches during the past week.

The icon will be in the Augustianian church this Thursday and in the church at Monaleen this Friday, followed by a visit to the Bedford Row project in advance of the the procession on Monday.

The procession will begin at the Redemptorist Church to St John’s Cathedral at 6pm on April 4 before being brought to its new home in Maynooth.
