A FIRE at a Shannon based factory on Good Friday led to the evacuation of up to 50 staff.
Workers at the Ohshima plant in the Shannon Free Zone were evacuated on Friday shortly before 4pm when a piece of machinary caught fire.
Three units from the nearby Shannon based Fire and Rescue service were alerted to the blaze at the factory located adjacent to Shannon Airport which specialises in high volume sheet metal fabrications.
Around 50 staff were working at the factory at the time and fire and rescue service monitored the the scene for a number of hours before declaring the area safe.
Ohshima, which is headquartered in Tokyo has six facilities worldwide and Shannon is one of its two Irish bases.
It is understood that an internal investigation has now been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
