Gardai investigate Askeaton street brawl

-

gardavanGARDAÍ in Limerick are investigating what was described by eye witnesses as “a pitched battle” in Lismakeera, Askeaton on Monday afternoon last.

It is understood that a large group of an extended Traveller family were involved in a row at a green area in the County Limerick town.

Up to 25 people armed with sticks and other weapons were involved in what was believed to be a long running family dispute.

It is understood that the row reignited after a stabbing incident last year.

A number of people were charged in connection with the assault and members of the same family were gathered at Newcastle West Court House last Friday when the row erupted again with one man requiring medical treatment.

Last Monday, there were further chaotic scenes when the two factions again confronted each other.

Gardaí in Newcastle West are asking anyone with information to contact them on 069 20650.
