THE circumstances of a fatal car accident in Limerick city this Tuesday night are under investigation by Gardai after a man in his 20s was killed when his car hit a van shortly after 7:30pm.
The man died in the road traffic collision on Hyde Road this Tuesday night and three people, including a young girl have been hospitalised.
The fatal collision occurred shortly after 7:30pm when it is believed that the car, with two males in their 20s inside, was traveling on the wrong side of the road and crashed into a vehicle coming the other way on Hyde Road.
A father, aged in his 40s and his 5-year-old daughter were traveling in a van on Hyde Road when the car with the two males, traveling on the wrong side of the road, collided into the van.
One man in his 20s, understood to have been the passenger, was fatally injured and the other male suffered injuries.
It is understood that the father and daughter were treated at the scene by emergency services and later hospitalised but their injuries are understood not to be life threatening.
The scene was attended by emergency services including units from the Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue service, emergency paramedics and a large Garda presence remains at the scene with the road closed in both directions.
Technical and forensic examinations are taking place and Gardai are appealing for witnesses.
