TREACHEROUS driving conditions in Limerick over the last 24 hours led crews from Limerick City fire and Rescue to attend to two separate road traffic collisions where vehicles were extensively damaged and with Met Eireann indicating that the cold snap will remain throughout the weekend, Gardai are asking that drivers take care while on journeys.
On Thursday afternoon and again this Friday morning, three units from the fire and rescue service attended separate incidents – a two vehicle collision and a single car accident – at various parts of the city.
The incident this Friday, pictured above, occurred on the Long Pavement on the Northside of the city where the car left the roadway turning several times before coming to a rest on its side.
Minor injuries were suffered by the driver which were treated by Emergency Paramedics who attended the scene.
Thursday afternoon’s crash saw more extensive damage caused to the vehicles involved with the entire front section and engine bay of one of the car’s destroyed.
The remainder of the weekend is expected to remain cold and wet with frost and the chance of sleet and snow in some parts.
Gardai have asked that drivers take care on journeys and remain vigilant while driving given the ever changing weather conditions.
