A LIMERICK woman is to stand trial on charges of assaulting another woman with a glass at a nightclub which left her with 23 stitches in her face.

31-year-old Ciara Killeen of Hyde Road is charged with assaulting and causing harm to Mary McCarthy at Queens Hotel in Ennis in the early hours of November 1 last year.

At a sitting of Ennis District Court last week, Judge Patrick Durkan sought that the State outline the nature of the allegations before the court so as he could determine jurisdiction in the case.

Inspector Tom Kennedy said it is alleged that Ms Killeen got into an argument with Ms McCarthy in the smoking area of the nightclub. She then struck the victim in the face with a glass, before they both started fighting on the ground.

Ms McCarthy went to the nightclub with four friends on the night and during the course of the incident she suffered an injury to her right eye.

Security staff had to separate the two women as they fought on the floor.

Judge Durcan refused to accept jurisdiction in the case as he outlined that he doesn’t like dealing with “bottling or glassing” matters.

Ciara Kileen was remanded on bail until April 27 next to allow the State preparation and serve a Book of Evidence.
