A COMPLETE independent review of the process, which led to Limerick City and County Council agreeing a lease for a gasification plant at the Gortadroma landfill site, has been called for.
Limerick Fine Gael TD, Patrick O’Donovan believes that the Audit Committee of the Council should commission a complete independent examination of the process to determine if proper procedures were followed.
Deputy O’Donovan pointed out that there is a great deal of concern in the areas surrounding Gortadroma in relation to the proposed use of the former landfill site.
“I believe that people should know the detail of the events which led up to the signing of the lease. I also would like to see details provided of the work which took place and the contact which was made between the Council and the company in question from the outset, whenever that was,” O’Donovan commented.
“I also think that it is time for full details of the lease including the commercial arrangements to be made public. This is a public facility which has been provided out of the resources of Limerick County Council,” he added.
Deputy O’Donovan has written to the Mayor of Limerick City and County, Cllr Liam Galvin asking that the Audit Committee of the Council be given the resources to carry out a full review of the whole process.
“The concerns of residents are real and need to be listened to and I believe that a fully independent review of the process to date, together with a proper independent due diligence of the entire project be carried out in a public and open manner.”
