A LARGE scale emergency search and rescue operation is underway in Co Limerick this Wednesday evening following reports that a person was seen in the water in the Annacotty area.
Three units of Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service together with the Shannon based Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 115, accompanied by Gardai, emergency paramedics and the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue are at the scene near the Annacotty weir in the area.
Shortly after 6pm, reports were made to emergency services that a person was seen in the water and in turn a full emergency response was launched.
It is understood that children in the area saw what they believed to be a body in the water.
Searches are continuing in the area and crew members from Limerick Marine Search and Rescue have launched two jet skis to continue the operation.
