PUBLISHED writers take note, it’s time to submit your interest in this year’s Éigse Hartnett. The annual Michael Hartnett Poetry Award has been taken home previously by Paddy Bushe, Jo Slade, Vona Groarke and Marcus Mac Conghail. This year’s presentation will take place on Thursday April 14 at Éigse in Newcastlewest, opening night for this literary festival that is bi-lingual and international.
For 2016 the winning title has to have been written in English; it will revert to as gaeilge next year as is usual for Éigse’s alternate rhythm. Limerick Arts Office is now open to applicants for the €4,000 prize. Candidates have to be the author of a third book of English language poetry, or subsequent book of poetry, published during 2014 or 2015.
This year’s adjudicators are poet Rita Ann Higgins and Gerard Smyth, poetry editor with The Irish Times. Email to [email protected], see the council website or call to Merchant’s Quay.
