New York sax Seamus Blake joins jazz trio

JAZZ season sounds out a strong opener with the English born, New York-based Seamus Blake on sax joining Tommy Halfertyโ€™s trio on Wednesday 10.

The Kasbah at Dolanโ€™s will be a first time destination for this Limerick Jazz event, doors 8.30pm.Booker John Daly is looking forward: โ€œSeamus Blake is probably one of the best saxophone players on the planet as we speak.

โ€œHe has been resident with the Mingus Big Band and has played with all the greats, all they way down. Seamus will be joined by Tommy Halferty, guitar supremo from Derry, with Kevin Brady on drums, Dave Redmond on bass for this trio.

โ€œThis will be a fantastic gig, Seamus is an amazing playerโ€.

Halferty himself is a longstanding giant in guitar work andย  has headlined many a festival and gig. Heโ€™s an old pal to Limerick and his host committee here as are Brady and Redmond.

Next up on March 9 will be the Shane Latimer Trio with Tim Berne, another New York based sax player โ€œbut with a totally different styleโ€.

Back to Dolanโ€™s Upstairs then and for April 6 (Sankhara, guitar and piano) and the May end of term Jazz Workshop party.
