JAZZ season sounds out a strong opener with the English born, New York-based Seamus Blake on sax joining Tommy Halferty’s trio on Wednesday 10.
The Kasbah at Dolan’s will be a first time destination for this Limerick Jazz event, doors 8.30pm.Booker John Daly is looking forward: “Seamus Blake is probably one of the best saxophone players on the planet as we speak.
“He has been resident with the Mingus Big Band and has played with all the greats, all they way down. Seamus will be joined by Tommy Halferty, guitar supremo from Derry, with Kevin Brady on drums, Dave Redmond on bass for this trio.
“This will be a fantastic gig, Seamus is an amazing player”.
Halferty himself is a longstanding giant in guitar work and has headlined many a festival and gig. He’s an old pal to Limerick and his host committee here as are Brady and Redmond.
Next up on March 9 will be the Shane Latimer Trio with Tim Berne, another New York based sax player “but with a totally different style”.
Back to Dolan’s Upstairs then and for April 6 (Sankhara, guitar and piano) and the May end of term Jazz Workshop party.
