GENERAL Election candidate for Limerick City, Sarah Jane Hennelly, insists that the Social Democrats are the only party that can be trusted to move forward plans for the construction of the long-overdue Cork-Limerick M20 Motorway.
Her party’s manifesto, launched in Dublin last week, is the only one to specifically identify the construction of a new motorway between Cork and Limerick as a priority. She considers this “unsurprising, considering the ‘giveaway’ nature of most other party manifestos”.
“The Social Democrats are the only party that can plausibly identify a much needed project, such as the M20 Motorway, as a priority because we are the only party calling for meaningful investment in infrastructure,” she told the Limerick Post this week.
“This project serves as an unfortunate symbol of the ‘boom-bust’ nature of Irish politics as does every other main political party’s manifesto with each scrambling to show how they can reduce the country’s tax base better than the other.
“If I’m elected, the M20 works will be high on my list of priorities”, she said.
The Social Democrats’ manifesto also identifies the improvement of transport between Limerick’s city centre and the suburbs and hinterlands as a priority.
