THE Government has kicked off its election campaign in the Mid West with the collective relaunch of its “building on recovery” Capital plan and the €42bn infrastructure investment plan in Ireland to 2021.
While nothing new was revealed, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, visited Limerick County buildings in Dooradoyle this Friday and was accompanied by fellow Mid West based Cabinet Ministers and local election candidates and highlighted some of the projects for the city and county.
Flanked by TDs Michael Noonan, Jan O’Sullivan, Alan Kelly and Pat Hayes, An Taoiseach said that “investing in the regions and supporting local job creation is central to our Long Term Economic Plan to keep the recovery going.
Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan spoke of the 29 construction projects for schools in the Md West, 13 of which are in Limerick, and the continued work in the €43m investment in public nursing home facilities in the country.
Meantime, speaking in Limerick, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan rejected the comments of Social Democrat Stephen Donnelly that the Limerick TD mislead the Dail and further clarified his position regarding the perceived threat by Jean Claude Trichet and the ECB over ELA (emergency liquidity assistance).
Mr Noonan denied he mislead the Dail adding the Deputy Donnelly had a “poor” attendance record in the Dail and that Jean Claude Trichet never threatened him over burning the bond holders in 2010.
