THE night of Thursday 21 at Limerick City Gallery of Art was a major one for visual arts, and for Limerick. This week saw the coming home of Ireland’s work for the 56th Venice Biennale which took place in Autumn. 400,000+ people took the time and interest to pursue its many parts in Italy – sculptural, moulded, photo-documentary, newsprint, metal works. There is even a brick salute to Wexford, and The Daily Mail’s editorial policy on specific matters.
LSAD artist/ teacher Sean Lynch, based sometimes in Askeaton but a wanderer of maps and other worlds with his wife, curator/ artist Michele Horrigan and new daughter Emily, is architect of ‘Adventure:Capital’.
This installation sits on plinths and fills out screens and glass boxes (check Bill Clinton’s ball through bullet-proof plate) throughout the chambers of Pery Square’s ground floor. Pick up Lynch’s 12-page ‘Ireland at Venice 2015’ to appreciate its intellectual, mythological and geographical sprawl. It’s a good laugh.
