Church vandalised in Limerick

-

St.Leila's Church, Ballynanty.GARDAÍ are investigating a burglary at St Lelia’s Church on Limerick’s Kileely Road where the sacristy was extensively damaged during the early hours of last Tuesday morning.

The culprits damaged doors, candelabras and vandalised the walls with graffiti.  A large safe, containing sacred vessels, was stolen.

The crime has been described by Fr Donal McNamara as upsetting and distressing to all associated with the church. Gardaí at Mayorstone have conducted fingerprint analysis from the scene as it is understood that the incident may be connected to two other break-ins at lock-up premises on Kileely Road and Sexton Street North.

Both of these burglaries were also carried out in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
