A YOUNG Limerick man has been saved from entering the water at the River Shannon because of the quick thinking of a passerby who intervened to help.
Shortly after 6.20pm this Thursday evening, Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to a male believed to be in 20s attempting to enter the River Shannon at Harvey’s quay in the city.
A male passerby, of approximately the same age, pulled the distressed young man back from the waters edge and held him until Emergency Services arrived.
Limerick Fire and rescue Service launched their rescue boat “FireSwift” within four minutes of receiving the call – however its services weren’t required.
Ground crews of the Fire Service assisted HSE Paramedics and Gardai with attending to the man who has since been transported to the University Hospital Limerick for assistance.
