ย RUGBY legend Paul OโConnell was among those honoured at the 2015 People of the Year Awards at the weekend.
The annual ceremony was presented by Grรกinne Seoige, along with reporter Aidan Power and broadcast live on RTร One. Founders of Hughโs House Ade Stack and Martin Curley, John Evoy of the Irish Association of Menโs Sheds, community group Yes Equality, and รglaigh na hรireann for the work of the Irish Naval Service were also celebrated at the awards.
The winners were joined by family, friends and supporters along with other well-known faces including Daniel and Majella OโDonnell, George Hook and Larry Gogan.
Paul OโConnell took home the Sports Person of the Year Award, for his outstanding achievements in rugby, as well as the leadership he has shown in Irish rugby over many years.
The judges said of Paul: โStrong, powerful, reliable, committed, and leader are just some of the characteristics associated with Irish rugby legend Paul OโConnell. On the pitch he has laid his heart and body on the line for club and country; in the dressing room he has inspired a host of teammates; and off the pitch, his warmth, charm and modesty has endeared him to the nation. A hero and a leader, he has worn the Young Munster, Munster, Ireland and Lions jerseys.โ
Previous People of the Year Award winners include Rory OโNeill, Brendan OโCarroll and Katie Taylor.
